HEALTH TEAM REPORT: JULY 2010

In July 2010, the Health Team at YFS undertook the following inititatives:

1.      AWARENESS TALKS on General Hygiene, Nutrition, Girl’s Personal Hygiene. These talks were conducted by the following trained volunteers:

  • Raksha Ramachandra – Kathriguppe School (Kathriguppe)
  • Shree Kavya – Shantiniketan School (Old Madras Road)
  • Divya – BBMP Corporation Girls High School (Jogupalya, Ulsoor)
  • Nischitha – Rajarajeshwari Nagar Zone
  • Sinu Joseph – Mahadevpura Govt School (Marathahalli)
  • Deepika – Govt Girls Home (Diary Circle)

Training on Awareness Talks: Around 20 volunteers were trained on July 11th to conduct Health Awareness Talks

Kannada Presentation: The presentations on General Hygiene, Nutrition and Girls Personal Hygiene have been translated into Kannada and uploaded on the YFS website.

2.      HEALTH CAMPS (9): The following health screening camps were conducted in July 2010

Dental (1): On 27th July, Oxford Dental College conducted Dental Screening Camp at Mahila Mandali School, Basavangudi. 8 dentists, and 10 volunteers were present. 223 childen were screened.

Eye (4): On 26th July, Narayana Nethralaya conducted Eye Screening camps at 4 schools in Malleshwaram zone. A total of 307 students were screened. Volunteer Anand Baskaran coordinated this event. The schools covered were Srirampura Girls School, Malleshwaram Govt School, BBMP Primary School, BBMP High School

Appearance Screening (4):

Pre-screening camps were done by Volunteers. The parameters screened were prepared by Dr.Vimochana. This was done in 4 schools in July 2010

  • Munichinnappa Govt School – 255 children
  • Srirampuram Girls School – 110
  • BBMP High School(8th std) – 30
  • Mahila Mandali School – 221 children

3. DOCTORS FOR SEVA

  • Nephrolife: Volunteers Sarah Brown & Akaksha got Nephrolife to agree to conduct free Urine tests for around 200 children. In addition, Nephrolife also offered to provide free consultation to around 100 children who may need it.
  • AECS Maruthi Dental college will be conducting dental camps in Bannerghatta Zone in August.
  • Oxford Dental College will be a part of the Bosch Medical camp, and other YFS organized camps as well, in Basavangudi zone.
  • Narayana Nethralaya will be conducting more Eye camps in Hebbal, Rajajinagar zones.
  • Maruthi Medicals(Vijayanagar) offered some free basic tablets for our medical camps. And also offered to provide them at lower rates for the govt school children.
  • Dr.Vimochana & Dr.Dinesh will be initiating Medical Checkups in 2 schools – Marenahalli school (Vijayanagar) and Sanegorenahalli school (Basaweshwarnagar). This will be done mostly in August.

4. SPONSOR A PATIENT: The following initiatives have been taken under this project

  • Identified 4 patients and 3 sponsorers have come forward for the sponsorship.
  • Set up a monthly donors list, whose contributions go into the general fund of sponsor a patient.
  • Assigned coordinators for each patient and have taken the patients to hospitals for complete checkup.
  • Planned to launch the program on Aug 15th, 2010
  • Total amount collected so far comes up to Rs.10,000 (Rupees ten thousand only)
  • The volunteers involved in this project are Pallavi Kamat, Panindra, Srichand, Yashwant, Anuradha, Rashmi, Pratima, Santosh, Preeti, Sudhakar, Tejaswini, Nishant, Deeksha.

5. BLOOD DONOR REGISTRY

So far, the number of volunteers who have registered as Blood Donors have crossed 500. Around 25 new registrations have taken place in July 2010.

6. EMRI– Mahadevpura Govt School

The EMRI’s 108 Emergency Team conducted an Awareness Program on the services offered by dialing 108 in an Emergency. This was conducted at Mahadevpura Government School in the first week of July. The event was coordinated by Mr.Ramprasad who teaches Spoken English (as a volunteer) at Mahadevpura School.

7. BOSCH CSR – August 3rd

All plans are in place to begin the Bosch CSR Program. The inaugration and Medical Camp will take place on August 3rd, at Munichennappa Government School (Adugodi). Volunteers Ashwini Bhatt and Sinu, with Dr.Vimochana’s help have been coordinating this project.

8. LIFE SKILLS – Plans are in place to initiate Like Skills Training in government schools. This will be done by people who have undergone Training from NIMHANS.
