REPORT: Gynecology Camp on June 10, 2011 (Blore)

On June 10, 2011, Youth for Seva in association with M/s. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt Ltd & Humane touch foundation, organized a Medical (Gynaecology) screening camp for 174 women in and around Gorepalya on Mysore road. The camp was conducted as part of Deloitte’s Volunteer’s Day program, and saw active participation from the employees of Deloitte. The report is presented below:

 

 

Date: June 10, 2011

Venue: Al-Azhar Foundation School, Gorepalya, Mysore road

Timing: 9 am to 2 pm

Doctors:

Team from Bangalore Hospital (5) – Dr. Srimani, Dr. Kumudini, Dr. Shashikala and 2 staff nurses

Team from Rajarajeshwari Medical college & Hospital (5) – Dr. Shwethashree, Dr. Shrinidhi, Dr. Smruthi, Sr. Sushmitha, Dr. Sushma

Deloitte Volunteers (16): Lakshmi, Saranya V, Florence, Neelima, Maheshwari, Annette, Shilpa, Manisha, Indu, Roopa, Meenakshi, Neha Sherawat, Nithya, Deioh, Nishveen, Archana KS, Preethi Vajpai

Components of the medical camp:

Screening of women for gynecological problems – Doctors from Bangalore Hospital screened around 100 women, following which doctors from Rajarajeshwari Medical college & Hospital screened around 74 women. Separate screening area ensured privacy for the women.

Awareness talks on pregnancy, child care & gynecology issues – Doctors from Rajarajeshwari Medical college & Hospital conducted awareness talks to the women while they were waiting for their turn to be screened by the doctor. The talks covered pregnancy care, new born care and other gynecological issues.

Medicines – A separate counter for dispensing medicines ensured that majority of women who needed medicines were given the same on the day of the camp.

Data collection – Volunteers from Deloitte managed the registration section, collecting data of patients needing referrals and entering data of all patients on laptops on the day of the camp itself.

Summary of the numbers:
Total number of women screened 174
Total number of women given medicines 45
Total number of women referred for gynecological issues 48
Total number of women for other ailments 30

Follow up procedure & options:

All women who required further referrals were informed about visiting Rajarajeshwari Medical Hospital or The Bangalore Hospital for free/subsidized services. The NGO Humane Touch who helped in mobilizing people to & arrangements on the day of the camp, will ensure that the women visit the referred hospitals.
