HEALTH TEAM REPORT: OCTOBER 2010

Overview:

This month, due to the schools having vacations, we were not able to conduct as many camps or undertake referrals as in the previous months. The highlight of this month was the health camp, survey and work done in Mittur (Kolar).

Camps (3):

1. SKR Govt aided School., Mittur (Kolar) – Oct-2

123 children in the age group of 13-15 years have been tested for their Hb level and a general medical screening was also done. Volunteers Present – Dr.Pallavi Kamat, Mrs. Vyjayanti, Mrs Rama, Ms. Ranjini, Ms. Sinu Jospeh.

2. Sri Krishna Orphanagr, Uttarahalli – Oct 3

47 children in the age group of 2 – 17 years were screened for Dental & General Medical problems & Hb testing was also done. Volunteers present – Siddharth, Sindhu Prasanna, Sindhu N, Ankita, Vyjayanthi, Harsha, Anand.

3. Survey at Mittur – Oct – 21

On October 21, 2010, a group of six volunteers visited Mittur village and conducted a survey which was mainly focussed on hygiene practises of women and sanitation facilities in the village. The paremeters surveryed were Age Group, LED Lamps, Cooking Method, Sanitation, Menstrual Hygiene, Disposal Method (Menstrual hygiene), Garbage disposal method

Sponsor a Patient:

1.      Four new dialysis patients are now enrolled in this program.

2.      All four dialysis patients have received sponsorships

3.      Funds amounting to Rs.20,000/- have been received in donations

Bosch CSR:

1.      Bosch and YFS have signed an MOU for 3 years for adopting Munichinappa Primary School, Adugodi for the health needs of the approx. 250 children.

2.      Bosch is considering a new project with YFS which involves adopting a Primary Health Center (PHC) close to Bosch & working on improving the existing conditions, be it infrastructure, equipment, providing doctors from Doctors for Seva, and volunteers from YFS.

3.      One student named Suhas who required surgery for hernia & undescended testes, got it done for free at Rangadore Hospital. Pediatrician Dr. Shubha Badami and Surgeon Dr. Dhiraj, from Rangadore Hospitial, helped to make this happen.

4.      8 children who required Pediatric consultation got it done for free through Dr. Shubha Badami, a member of Doctors for Seva.

5.      Fortis: Cardiac & Nuero cases were completed by Bosch’s tie up with Fortis Hospital, Bannerghatta.

Others:

1.      Mahaveer Jain Hospital has agreed to, and now is a member of Doctors for Seva.

2.      Patient Charles who required funs for BrainTumour surgery, has now undergone the surgery successfully and is recovering. Volunteers Anand and Vikshut mainly helped to collect Rs. 60,000/- approximately needed for the surgery.

3.      Sanitary Pad production unit

4.      2 individual doctors joined the network of DFS – Dr. Jayalakshmi, Dr. Deepashri

5.      Talks are on to set up a free Youth Counselling Centre at the new YFS office in Konankunte (Kanankpura road)

November 2010:
