The following activities were undertaken by the YFS Health team in June 2010.
1.     Smile Child Project initiated by Dr.Abhishek and team conducted Dental checkups in 2 schools at Malleshwaram. Volunteer Anand Baskaran helped coordinate this event.
2.     St.Marthas Hospital – The project at St.Marthas was re-initiated. Around 30 volunteers registered, and around 10 volunteer regularly. Activities include – managing help desks at OPD, processing patient records, rehab & group therapy activities for stroke patients, landscaping, etc. YFS volunteer Anand Baskaran coordinates this project.
3.     Kidwai Cancer Institute – Counselling at Kidwai – Senior counselors from Prasanna Counseling centre were introduced to Kidwai. They visit Kidwai once a week and conduct individual counselling sessions for adult cancer patients.
4.     Sponsor a Patient – This project was started by Pallavi Kamat, Panindra and others.
5.     Awareness Talks – Around 15 female volunteers were trained to conduct Awareness talks on general hygiene, nutrition and personal hygiene in schools.
6.     Bosch CSR Program – 1000+ houses and nearly 5000 individuals from slums at Adugodi were surveyed, and the data typed out and analyzed in detail. The model for the Pregnancy care project and School Health project were submitted. The school health project has been approved and will begin in August first week. Volunteer Ashwini Bhatt will coordinate things at Munichinnappa Govt School in Adugodi. The first round of appearance screening has been done by Ashwini and others. The Pregnancy care project will be taken up at a later time.
7.     Doctors for Seva – Doctors for Seva was re-initiated. Volunteers Akanksha and Sarah helped to build the list of DFS. Overall, we approached 16 different institutions – Oxford Dental College, Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences, AECS Dental college, St. John’s hospital, Sagar Hospital, BMC, Manipal Northside Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Columbia Asia, Narayana Nethralaya, Titan eye, Lawrence & Mayo, Vision Express, KIMS, Chan Re, Sunayana Eye Clinic and IMA. Also, around 12 individual doctors signed up to be a part of DFS.
8.     Blood Donor Camp – We conducted a Blood Donation camp in association with the EMRI’s 108 Emergency service group, on June 15th. Panindra was the YFS coordinator for this camp.
9.     Seva in Action – New volunteer Anitha will be volunteering at Seva in Action and will be a contact point for YFS at SIA.
For July: Work has begun on the following – printing health ID cards, documentary on personal hygiene for girls, conducting medical & dental checkups in other schools in both North and South zone.
